Forever young

Yesterday a group of us went to *C's* funeral. It was held at a church in a smaller town a couple of hours from here. (FYI, *C* is the little boy who died in my story below.)

The church was filled...the small town showed their love and support for this family by wearing green, his favorite color (unfortunately we did not get that memo...) The children's choir sang "I Am A Child of God", his teacher and his principal both spoke about what a great kid he was. After it was over, all the kids were allowed to take a green balloon and let it go. It was pretty awesome watching all those balloons float up into the blue sky until they were out of site. Then the church had a lunch for all. His family were very surprised that we would drive so far to come to see them....we did go to visit with them one more time, but we were very blessed to be there.

One of the things that was spoken about him....when he grew up he wanted to be "Peter Pan". Not a fireman, policeman, doctor, etc....Peter Pan. Did he know something we don't?

Seven-year-olds can touch many lives in a short time. He was only sick for a few months. Yes, it is sad that he was taken from his family and friends so soon, but think of where he is now...not much comparison in my mind....forever young.

I am so glad you got to go to the funeral. Lisa - I have no idea how you do what you do! God bless you!

It is such a privelege to do what we do that sometimes the sorrow is only fleeting compared to the good we were able to accomplish. 'Tis truly better to give than to receive. I'm proud to know you!

Wow, tears in my eyes as I write this. That is so neat that you went to say a last goodbye, I can only imagine how much it must have meant to the family! I love the balloons too that is one of the ways we remember little baby Charlsie every year :)
